The Wisconsin FFA held its 78th annual convention in Madison June 13. The FFA, founded in 1928 as the "Future Farmers of America" operates on local, state and national levels. The Wisconsin FFA Association was founded in 1929. Student members belong to chapters organized at the local school level. Chapters are organized under state associations headed by an advisor and executive secretary, often employees of the state department of education. States conduct programs and host annual conventions. The organization says it is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of young people by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. |

The Bishop of Madison’s Catholic Diocese, the Most Reverend Robert C. Morlino, spoke at length with Wisconsin Eye on June 7 regarding the announcement of the rebuilding of St. Raphael’s Cathedral and its meaning to Madisonian’s and Wisconsinites at large. Three days later, Bishop Morlino made the official announcement at the conclusion of a Eucharistic Procession celebrating the Feast of Corpus Christi. A procession took place in downtown Madison. Beginning at St. Patrick's Church, and onto the State Capitol where Bishop Paul Swain of the Diocese of Sioux Falls, S.D., and former rector of St. Raphael, spoke. The procession concluded at St. Raphael's, where Bishop Morlino said that St. Raphael’s Cathedral would be rebuilt on the site of the present church in downtown Madison. |
