On May 16, 2018, the Wisconsin Supreme Court held a Public Rules Conference to address the petition to amend SCR 81.02. The petition asks the Wisconsin Supreme Court to change the hourly compensation rate for court-appointed lawyers from $70 to $100 per hour. It also includes provisions in SCR 82.02 that would index future compensation rates to annual cost of living increases and would specify that any payment for legal services rendered pursuant to an appointment by the State Public Defender.
