On November 17, 2017, the Tommy G. Thompson Center hosted a conference called “Leadership Across the Branches.” It is devoted to identifying leadership skills among public officials and disseminating that knowledge. The first panel, entitled Leadership in Congress, featured Professor Eleanor Powell (UW-Madison), Paul Carver (former policy advisor to Rep. Dave Obey), Representative Glenn Grothman, Mark Hadley (Congressional Budget Office), and former Representative Scott Klug.
The second panel, entitled Leadership in the State Legislature featured Professor Hilary Shager (UW-Madison), Speaker Robin Vos, Minority Leader Gordon Hintz, Majority Leader Jim Steineke, and former Speaker and Ambassador Tom Loftus.
