On October 22, 2011 in Fitchburg the Oregon Area Progressives presented a series of panels to examine ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council) and its impact on legislation in a number of critical areas including: education, tax policy, healthcare, voter ID and jobs. In the first portion of the program, Lisa Graves from the Center for Media and Democracy, as well as Mike McCabe of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, addressed attendees. The program was moderated by John Nichols, writer for The Nation magazine.

Pocan was then joined by Jack Norman from the Institute for Wisconsin's Future, to give a presentation on ALEC's influence on taxes.

In this portion of the program, Senator Mark Miller (D-Monona) and Nino Amato of the Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups spoke on the topic of ALEC and voter ID legislation. Robert Kraig of Citizen Action of Wisconsin, along with Representative Janice Ringhand (D-Evansville), then spoke about the topic of ALEC's affect on healthcare. Afterwards, Jim Cavanaugh of the South Central Federation of Labor, along with Joanne Ricca of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO, spoke about ALEC and employment policy. The event was wrapped-up by Common Cause's Jay Heck, who gave a presentation about campaign finance.
