Historic Wisconsin: Indian Agency House
WisconsinEye visited the historic Indian Agency House on May 10, 2010. Located in Portage WI, the house was built by the U.S. government for John Kinzie in 1832. Kinzie was the Indian Agent to the Ho-Chunk Nation (Winnebago), and he and his wife, Juliette Magill Kinzie lived at the portage from 1832-1834. Juliette Kinzie would later write of their experience in her book, Wau-Bun, the "Early Day" in the Northwest. Destinee Udelhoven, the Executive Director provided a history of the agency. Join WisconsinEye as we visit this historic site, take a tour of the museum and house, and learn about the rich history of this time and people.

Historic Wisconsin: Wisconsin Historical Society Reading Room
WisconsinEye visited the newly remodeled Wisconsin Historical Society Reading Room on May 3, 2010. The room, located in the Historical Society's headquarters in Madison, has been in existence since 1900 and has gone through various transformations. Through this most recent project, the room was restored to its original brilliance, down to the most intricate detail. Take a tour of the new space, narrated by Historical Society officials, as well as the room's head architect.

Gaylord Nelson and the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day
As part of WisconsinEye's Historic Wisconsin series, Meredith Clanfield and WisconsinEye's camera visited the Wisconsin Historical Museum on April 12, 2010 to showcase their new exhibit on former U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson and the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day. Exhibit Designer Doug Griffin takes viewers through the exhibit that will be on display through the beginning of June.

Wisconsin Eye visited the 50th annual Lumberjack World Championships on July 24, 2009, in Hayward. The Lumberjack World Championships feature 21 events derived from different aspects of the lumber industry. We spoke to Diane McNamer, Executive Director of the Lumberjack World Championships, Laurence O’Toole, a competitor from Australia, Sheree Taylor, a competitor from New Zealand, and David Geer, a competitor from Hayward who also helped found the event in Hayward fifty years ago.

WisconsinEye toured the Villa Louis Mansion Site in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, on July 8, 2009. Villa Louis Mansion features a mansion and the Dousman offices dating back to the Victorian era. Site director, Michael Douglass and curator, Susan Caya-Slusser led the tour and spoke about how life was like in the Dousman household during the Victorian era.
