Capitol Interview: J.B. Van Hollen on the Posting of Recall Petitions Online
Attorney General JB Van Hollen said in a WisconsinEye interview on Jan. 31 that the names of those whose signed petitions to recall Republican Gov. Scott Walker are public records. In a Capitol interview, Van Hollen said any individual who signed one of those petitions and who feared for their safety could request that it be redacted. Van Hollen also said the law does not require that the elections agency, the Government Accountability Board, release the names of petition signers in a searchable data base, although using the Internet would be an "effective" way to make the names public. Groups trying to recall Walker and the state Republican Party already have the names of all petition signers, Van Hollen noted.

Capitol Interviews: Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald
Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said the Senate will meet Tuesday but he will not bring up the Gov. Scott Walker's budget-repair bill, unless the 14 Senate Dems return to the Capitol. Fitzgerald also said security around the Senate and Capitol's South Wing will be stepped up, so senators are not 'intimated' by the eighth straight day of protests by opponents of Walker's changes. Democratic Sen. Dave Hansen of Green Bay asked Fitzgerald, "Are you ready to negotiate with Wisconsin workers?" But Fitzgerald said Hansen and all other Democrats should "show up for work" Tuesday because, "You're shutting down government."
