The Wisconsin Supreme Court held a rules hearing on May 16, 2012 at the state Capitol, where they heard testimony on Rules Petition 11-05, in the matter of the petition to review changes in the State Bar bylaw, and Rules Petition 11-08, relating to the legal competence requirements of graduates of law schools in other nations.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court continued their rules hearing on Rules Petition 12-02, requiring the Board of Bar Examiners to abide by the state Open Records and Open Meetings Laws.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court held an open administrative conference on May 16, 2012, where they discussed various rules petitions, including Rules Petitions 11-05, 11-08, and 12-02, which were heard earlier in the day. The court also discussed Rules Petition 11-04, a motion to hold public hearing on petition to create voluntary bar; and Rules Petition 11-09, relating to Ex Parte Communications in Treatment Courts.

The Administrative Affairs Subcommittee met at the state Capitol on May 16, 2012 to review and make recommendations on requests submitted by state agencies.

The Government Accountability Board held a public meeting on May 15, 2012 in Madison. The GAB heard reports on several issues, including the April 3, 2012 presidential preference primary and the May 8, 2012 recall primary election, as well as the Verify the Recall analysis and a report on concealed carry restrictions in the GAB offices and at polling places. Also on their agenda was the approval of scope statements on single signer recall petitions, corporate campaign activity, and the use of stickers on student identification cards.

The Third Annual Wisconsin Women’s Health Policy Summit, sponsored by the Wisconsin Alliance for Women’s Health, was held May 15, 2012 at the Monona Terrace. Karen Timberlake, Director of the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, provided the welcoming remarks and a Wisconsin women’s health update. The keynote address, “How Wisconsin Women Are Winning with the Affordable Care Act,” was presented by Judy Waxman, Vice President of Health & Reproductive Rights at the National Women's Law Center. There was also a legislative panel, moderated by former state legislator Barbara Notestein and including Department of Public Health Administrator Karen McKeown, State Senator Jennifer Schilling (D-La Crosse), and State Representatives Sandy Pasch (D-Milwaukee) and Chris Taylor (D-Madison).

State Senator Jessica King (D-Oshkosh) hosted a legislative listening session focusing on the impact of workplace changes in state correctional institutions on May 15, 2012 at Waupun Public Library. Joining Senator King were Senators Mark Miller (D-Monona), Jon Erpenbach (D-Middleton), Jennifer Shilling (D-La Crosse) and Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt (R-Fond du Lac).

On May 15, 2012, during a break in a Government Accountability Board meeting, Director and General Counsel Kevin Kennedy met with the media and discussed why they were not looking into Governor Walker's legal defense fund and municipalities approach on how to deal with concealed carry at polling places.

The special committee on Review of Emergency Detention and Admission of Minors Under Chapter 51 met on May 14, 2012 in Madison.

The Republican Party of Wisconsin State Convention kicked off with addresses by Brian Schimming, RPW first vice chairman, and State Senator Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) on May 12, 2012 in Green Bay. Various Republican legislators, both state and federal, also addressed the convention. Governor Scott Walker (R) then spoke to the Convention, where he reaffirmed his commitment to create 250,000 new jobs by the end of his first term. Governor Walker faces challenger, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, in a recall election on June 5.

Former Governor Tommy Thompson, Former U.S. Congressman Mark Neumann, State Representative Jeff Fitzgerald (R-Horicon), and businessman Eric Hovde are all running for the Republican nomination.
