12.10.10 | Wisconsin in Words: New Poet Laureate Bruce Dethlefsen

On January 1, Bruce Dethlefsen of Westfield begins a two-year term as Wisconsin Poet Laureate. In a Wisconsin in Words interview on December 10, the retired school librarian talked about his goals of explaining the importance of poetry in schools across the state and encouraging the writing of poetry as an emotional outlet and for personal discovery. Dethlefsen, who said there are a surprising number of poets in Wisconsin, also explained the “three Rs” of his career – reading, regarding and remembering.
