THE LAW OF THE LAND

What new laws would be fair, and make people in my community happier and safer?

Laws are meant to solve problems in a fair way. In order to pass a law, the sponsors need to justify the need to solve a problem, and persuade others that the law is a fair solution. In this lesson students think about their community (town, or state) and come up with an idea for a new law that would solve an existing problem. They also talk to their peers to gain support for the law, and justify the need in a short speech to the class. Ultimately the class votes on each proposal.
